For importers and wholesalers, a bathroom product is only as good as its ability to pass customs and local plumbing inspections. At TOPBATH, we hold multiple international certifications, but buyers often ask: “What is the difference, and which one do I need?”

Here is a breakdown of the three main certifications we carry: cUPC, CE, and SASO.

1. cUPC (North America – USA & Canada)

What it is: The Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) certification, issued by IAPMO. The “c” stands for Canada.

Why it matters: It is mandatory for plumbing products (faucets, toilets, bathtubs, shower valves) sold in the US and Canada. Without it, local plumbing inspectors will fail the installation, and you cannot legally sell the product.

Focus Area: cUPC is heavily focused on lead-free compliance (NSF/ANSI 61) and structural integrity under high water pressure.

2. CE (Europe)

What it is: The Conformité Européenne mark indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area.

Why it matters: It is required to clear customs in Europe. For bathroom products, it usually covers the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and machinery directives (for smart toilets).

Focus Area: CE focuses on material safety, water efficiency, and electrical safety (if applicable).

3. SASO (Middle East – Saudi Arabia)

What it is: The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization certification.

Why it matters: Required for goods entering Saudi Arabia. It involves a pre-shipment inspection (Certificate of Conformity – CoC) at the factory or port.

Focus Area: SASO ensures the product adheres to local water-saving standards and withstands the extreme temperature variations in the Middle East.

How to Verify Supplier Certificates

Many factories claim to have certifications, but buyers must verify them before placing a deposit. Always ask for:
